Yellow pumps by Yoki, half off of $5.99 for $3.00.

$3.

$3.

In case you didn’t catch it the first time.  Or second.

The jeggings in this picture are also Goodwill originally by NY&Co., and I got them for $5.99, I think.  You can read about that great find and trip here!

I was so excited when I found these.  As soon as I did, I knew that they were the reason I was meant to go to Goodwill that day.

I really love all of my goodwillfinds, that it would be very hard to choose a favorite.

But if I had to, I may just pick these.

How cute are they??

From the curved stitching on the front and down the sides, to the great half wedge half heel structure, and obviously the awesome burnt yellow.  They are classy and cute.

They were the perfect pop of color to add to this white shirt, blue jean outfit last night meeting friends for drinks, dinner, and a show.  All at the same place.  The Listening Room.  Where I work.

Two of the girls I was out with had shoe envy over these, success 😉

Made me feel even better that I could tell them I got them for $3 at Goodwill.

One of the girls lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, and since she is my size 7, we may have decided we will do a shoe share and mail these back and forth, one month on one month off…gotta stay in touch somehow 😉

The last picture of me is taken at Pour House in Nashville, a newer addition to the restaurant scene here, on 8th avenue.  We ended the night there with one last drink, because us girls, we just can never stop talking right?

In the end, Goodwill never ceases to amaze me with what you can find there, for so cheap, and while supporting a GREAT cause of helping handicapped people find work and rejoin the work force.

New Purse, and don’t try and change your car!

Brown Distressed Pleather Purse by BUENO, $5.99

From the Berry Hill Goodwill in Nashville, TN.

(does anyone know much about this brand?  I have actually never heard of it or know where is is normally sold, but I do love this purse)

It reminds me of a purse I would find at Target by Converse or something.  But it’s not.  It’s by BUENO.

Bueno it is.  For all y’all non-spanish experts out there, that means GOOD.

It is good.  It is perfect.  The perfect size, and color and vibe.  I like that it has two small pockets on the outside, and a divider insdie of the purse, instead of it just being one big pocket.  It’s the little things that make a purse perfect.

PS, I love a company that names their brand “GOOD”.  How smart is that?  It’s like you don’t even need to decide if you like it or not- they’ve already told you- it’s good!  On a similar note, we just got a new somewhat local draft beer in from Alabammy at work called “Good People.”  Same thing! How smart.  People will automatically trust this brand.  Its made by good people!  Why has every company and brand not named their product ‘Good People’?  Luckily, it is actually pretty good beer, so that’s a plus.  At least they’re not lying.  Good people would not make bad beer.  That’s just silly.

Anyway, back to fashion, I may have mentioned I was on the lookout for a new purse.  Or I may not have.  Well I was, for a summer one, and I did find a cool Indian inspired patterned one at Payless about a month ago for $14.99, regularly $24.99, but decided I still wouldn’t mind having a more plain and less busy one.  Enter, this purse.  I had used my last hunter green Goodwill one all throught the winter and most of the spring, and felt it was too dark for the summer months.

As if one needs an excuse to have more than one seasonal purse…especially at prices under or around $10.

Soooo, on a completely different note, I have some more life advice I would like to include.  It is about being yourself, something I have mentioned the importacne of before- even though it seems so obvious!  We are all made so different, yet for some reason I feel we so often try to conform.  To what standards others decide.

So I was driving my car the other day, as one does to get from Point A to Point B, and I drive a manual car.  For about 6 months now.  It drives ALOT different than an automatic, the kind of car I am much more used to driving.  It is not as smooth a start and never takes off as fast as you have to ease on the gas and off the clutch.  But every since I got it I have been trying to make it start and drive in general just like an automatic.  And it’s very stressful, and I don’t do a good job of it.

They are jerky.  By nature.  It will never be as smooth.

finally, I accepted this.

And I felt so free.

My car, and me as the driver, were free to be who we were.

And now I could find out what things my car will do, and let my car do waht an automatic can’t.  and enjoy the change.  but if I had never stopped trying to make it be an automatic, I may never realize what it as a manual has to offer.

Maybe silly, but it hit me as kind of cool, so I thought I’d share it.

Never force something that just doesn’t want to be.

Whatever it is.

Being myself,

Aside

I Found It!!

This past Saturday was the first Saturday of the month, in case you didn’t know.  Minds blown yet?:)

Well they will be.  In my area, that day  means all local Goodwills are half off the entire store.  Still hard for me to wrap my mind around that goodness.  It’s so exciting to not have to care about that pesky little ‘color of the week’.  Nope, not on the first Saturday.  Whatever you pick up, you can just cut the price in half.  Red, blue, orange, green…take. your. pick.

When I first discovered this, i would make tentative plans to wake up early and head over there ASAP on the first saturday of each month.  this slowly stopped as i realized how crazy it was, and may be not completely worth it for ME.  i do like sleep.  And i swear i saw an ambulance parked outside once…not ok.

so it has turned into me realizing what day it is after i pull into the parking lot to piles of cars upon cars, as i did this past saturday.  i got off work a little early and had some free time, so as any goodwiller would do, made my way to a goodwill that was on my way home.  i was then pleasantly, or not so pleasantly surprised (because of all the cars and the no parking situation.  I ended up parking somewhat illegally across the street.  rebel am i.) at the half off saturday event.

i’m glad i stopeed.  the line for checkout was no more than 5 minutes at the end, not bad, and the crowds weren’t too bad.

and i came away with some treasures.

the first treasure i will share is this form fitting (i found one!!!) piece of clothing I, and I’m sure my boyfriend, have been waiting for me to find and own.  I came close on this trip, but was thwarted by one too many ruffles…

Mossimo from Target purple stretch cotton short sleeveless dress.  Half off of $7.99 or $4.00.  Yes.

i almost put it back.  when will i wear this?  get it.  why does it need to be quite so tight?  and purple?  just get it.

there will be an occasion.

it turns out that occasion was the very next night to go to the  movies with my boyfriend, ending our Nashville staycation adventure I told y’all about.  We saw This is the End with about 101,000 hollywood movie stars playing caricatures of themselves in it.  It was pretty cool….

other than that, i really have no words for this movie.  I don’t even know what to say about it.  Ok, that was a little redundant.  It was a fun time on a Sunday night, i’ll just leave it at that.

and i got to rock out my purple dress.

he liked it, i’m sure.  i think he felt like his own version of who kidnapped jaime and replaced her with this tight dress wearing vixen.  It was fun to feel a little like someone else for a night.  a little sexy.  i think when you get in a relationship, you stop trying as hard after a bit to look good for the other person, and you just get comfortable.  Which i love.  i love comfort.  comfort loves me.  but it was nice to dress up and put some effort in for him, and me, again.  He deserves it.

and that may be the very reason he showed up at my work where i was bartending the next night modeling his new seersucker jacket and tie and holding a rose.  just maybe.  🙂

I paired the dress with my new statement necklace from Burlington Coat Factory that I got for $9.99.  I have never found more reasonable jewelry prices than there.  y’all should check ’em out.  Great necklaces that look like they should be around $30 for under $10.  I also added a somewhat cropped dark wash jean jacket from Old Navy a couple of years ago thinking based on years and years of experience that it would be cool in the movie theater.  too cool for a short sleeveless dress.

no.  it was warm.  when is it warm in the theater???  i ended up taking the jacket off and feeling fine.  strange.  can’t plan for anything these days.

i will share more of my finds from that day when the time is right.  and/or when i use them:)  I got a great pair or yellow heels/wedges i can’t wait to show ya pictures of…

until next time, happy day and happy thrifting.  go out and spread some love!:)

What are some of your favorite goodwill/thrift store special sale events in your area of the world?

staycation and Goodwill to the rescue

I had a little staycation/vacation or what have you this past weekend, it was so nice.

I have to agree with the joy of baking that there is something so nice about just being away.  even if it isn’t that far.  even if it is just 25 minutes.

Ben was house and dog sitting for his friend only 25 minutes outside of Nashville in a suburb called hermitage, and I went and stayed there saturday night after work through to Sunday.

either of us could have very easily gone home early in the day Sunday as his friends would be home that night, and the dog would be fine.  but we decided to stay.  my dog was there.  they could have some quality dog play time.  and we could have some quality ben jaime time.

we started our staycation (that word just really never gets old) by shopping at the local grocery store (something you totally do on vacation) for stuff for our pancake breakfast extravaganza.  strawberries, blueberries, snickers, peaches, bananas….i know, we’re pretty impressive eaters.

peaches n’ cream with blueberries and strawberries baked in.

(don’t worry….you can follow me on instagram @jaimen84! do it!)

our inspiration for this pancake breakfast was this restaurant we love called the Pfunky Griddle in the Berry Hill area of Nashville.  there is a griddle in the middle. of the table.  kind of like a do it yourself breakfast hibachi, and you get to pick your own toppings and make your own pancakes!  They entrust you with a big spatula of your own and everything!

they shouldn’t entrust Ben.  he flops it everytime.  luckily he has me to come to the rescue.  he and i have found i am a great flopper.

I have pictures!

my spatula, his spatula.  our griddle.  now we don’t have to fight.

Ben finding out this is a ‘make your own food’ restaurant.  give him a second to let it sink in.  apparently when i said its a ‘make your own pancake’ place, he thought i meant ‘its a restaurant just like any other, don’t be excited about this.’

576556_10101276151419211_1644895959_n

me, fresh out of bed and ready to play.  oh look at that, that little number i have on is one of my favorite floor length maxi dresses from goodwill.  those stripes all the way down.  go ahead and picture it.  $7.99 last year on charlotte pike.

one of our yummy concoctions.  banana m&m.  we are never going to be the same.

and that, my friends, is the Pfunky Griddle.

i know.

after we finished our version of Pfunky Griddle, i happily remembered that I have my friend’s key for her hotel room and outdoor poooooool (vacation!!!) about ten minutes away.  perfect next move as it was sunny and beautiful out.

problem- I had no bathing suit with me on this unplanned staycation 😦

Luckily, this is the same house I mentioned in my last post that happens to be just 5 glorious minutes away from a huge area Goodwill.

problem solved.

any excuse, right?  Ben knows.

So I said I’d be right back and hopped in the car to go find a bathing suit for CHEAP!

I knew on Sundays they had the prior color of the week on sale for just .99, as well as the new color of the week at half off.  Between the two colors I should be able to get out wtih a crazy cheap suit in hand.  On Sunday that was green and orange, so I kept my eyes glued for those hues and those hues only, and steered clear of any impostors. I wasn’t out to make a fashion statement, just not to spend a lot of money and to not be wearing a bra and underwear at a hotel pool.

Who am I kidding? I’m always out to make a fashion statement:).

I think I did alright.

This is what I found for my day of fun in the sun:

IMG_3205 IMG_3204 IMG_3203

Tommy Hilfiger bikini top, $2.13 at half off.

Target bikini bottom, rouched sides, .99.

$3.14 total for my emergency swim wear for the day.  Who’s a Goodwill pro?  I’m a Goodwill pro.

I almost got this very first suit I picked up, for .99:

 IMG_3189IMG_3190

cute wrap enclosure on the side.

to make the quickest goodwill trip on record, but I couldn’t have that.

i couldn’t get the very first suit.  i needed to be gone and make ben wait for at least a little bit longer, and it’s hard to go back to a one piece after all those years of tummy freedom in a bikini.  i felt so emprisioned.  i do love that pattern though… :/

This is me putting it to use with a Cayman Jack margarita drink of choice in hand.

IMG_3197

the bottom half of my raft is covered in cup holders.  pretty cool.  i would love to see the day I put all twelve of them to use at once- one, maybe two is all I can really see needing, but i won’t rule it out.

IMG_3192

i’ll agree with that.

IMG_3191

token drink leg pool picture.  gotta love em.

hand crafted and delicious.  i know, i need a pedicure.  it’s on the list.  but with so much pool sitting to do…i don’t really see how it’s gonna get done.

When buying this drink on the way to the pool at the gas station, I had it in mind to get a Bud Light Strawberrita.  but when I saw this can sporting a “no artificial ingredients, pure agave syrup, fresh lime juice and cane sugar” label on it, i had to change my story.  it may have as well have had an arrow pointing to it with a neon sign saying,

“Jaime, anything you could ever want in a drink for sitting by the pool is right here———->”

Cayman Jack knows the way to my heart.

Then I looked at the Bud Light version and saw in the same spot on the can, “contains artificial ingredients.”  bud light, you really know how to say the wrong thing sometimes.

I’m pretty sure we both passed out in the sun for at least a little bit by the pool that day.  Me while in the pool and on my raft island, him in his chaise lounge on the deck.  Success.  Staycation.

Until next time!  Happy thrifting and living!

love you all,

jaime

Have you all had any succcesful staycations this year?  Aren’t they sometimes so much more relaxing than traveling far and wide?

Has Goodwill saved you in an emergency clothing or other situation and gotten you out for cheap?

Who Kidnapped Me?

Imagea

ImageImageImage

And replaced her with a lady who says “I”m not actually going to get any of this.”

When ‘any of this’ is $4.29 a piece.

In the words of Jack McFarland, “Ex-squeeeeeze me?!!”

(Love him)

I don’t know who did it, but I want him or her to return me to me, after they learn to buy a good deal when they find one.

Because I would have loved to have had this green top and purple skirt.

Alas, neither of these items went home with me, but here is there info:

Gap Purple Skirt, just my size 8, $4.29

Lauren Conrad Ruffle Olive Green T-shirt, $4.29

To be honest, I couldn’t think off of the top of my head what I would pair the purple skirt with, out of clothing I owned or didn’t own and would then search for on my next trip… This made it a tad easier to turn down as I didn’t have some magical outfit pictured in my head that would never happen without that purple piece of heaven in my life.

I would pair these two colors together… but not their styles.  Each piece of clothing, both the shirt and the skirt, would require the piece worn with it to be simpler and more form fitting.   The shirt is too loose to wear with the skirt and vice versa, or else if not, I”m pretty sure the pair of  ’em would’ve ended up in my closet.

I was excited on this trip (I mean I”m always excited on a Goodwill trip, but anyway….) because I got to go to a Goodwill 20 minutes outside of Nashville that I never get to/choose to go to.  But I got the chance last week because my boyfriend is house sitting for a friend 5 minutes down the road.  Cut to me arriving there early one Thursday morning ‘ready to shop’.  Or apparently ready to find great things and then say no.  Either/or.

Are you every now and then a responsible shopper, or always, or never???

Do you like the color block trend/fashion style?

Life is a Banquet

This plaque would have been $2.99. Would have. I didn’t purchase it:(. My new place actually has quality walls, not your typical drywall, meaning hanging art with thumb tacs, my preferred method for my whole adult life, will not cut it here. This will substantially decrease my art hanging at my new place. Hence, I knew I wouldn’t hang this up, so I didn’t buy it.

It is quite lovely though, isn’t it?

I love the hanging little beads across the bottom. So whimsical and completely cute. Really couldn’t have done it better myself. I don’t say that often:)

It would have been a great reminder hanging somewhere in my house every day. Don’t let yourself starve in the middle of a feast. Seems quite obvious, but so many of us let it happen. Life is full of SO MANY good and wonderful things, we just have to reach out and take it. Not only are we surrounded by beauty on this earth, but we are all filled with individual passions and desires that make us so happy, we have the ability to be completely satisfied. Don’t be limited by self imposed restrictions; be they fears, insecurities, past mistakes, or any number of things. Do what you love, even if you don’t get paid for it, ever. Life is a banquet, just reach out, pick up that fancy fork, and dig. in.

I guess for now I’ll just keep it as the background on my phone 🙂

Love,

-Jaime

“I’ll think I’ll take ’em”

All Goodwill.

Shirt- Half off for $2.13 by Forever 21, last Spring of 2012 at the Charlotte Pike Goodwill in Nashville.

Shorts- $4.29 by Mossimo from Target, last Summer or 2012 at the Charlotte Pike Goodwill in Nashville.

I had a little fun with the exposure and contrast settings on this post.  Clearly.

It’s like instagram on your computer.  Pretty cool.

I fleetingly thought of doing a wordless post, as these pictures are self explanatory, all Goodwill.  And then I stopped.

No words is not in my vocabulary.  No pictures…maybe, but also, not really.

SO!

Here we go.

These shorts got me a little reprimand and friendly reminder of the dress code at the preschool.  CAN’T be shorter than arms length.  Ok. These may be a LITTLE shorter than that… :/.  Oops.

Heard and received and will not do it again.  Wouldn’t want to distract the 3 year olds with my bare legs.

I think we all know what I love so much about the shirt.  The excessive amount of flowers covering every bare inch.  I’m not a huge proponent of wearing black.  Ever.  But cover it in whimsical flowers and I’ll make an exception and allow it on my body.

I would have killed (and by kill I mean kill with kindness) to have some yellow skinny jeans to pair with this top.  I don’t love adding distressing in addition to color on the bottom with such a busy shirt on top.  But beggars Goodwillers can’t always be choosers.  But most of the time, we can.

The shorts do just fine.  More than fine.

I also decided to not really add any jewelry to this outfit at the time either, probably could have done simple earrings, but I decided to just go without this time.  Let the shirt speak if you will.  Let it “Spirk” 🙂

Til next time!

-Jaime
