Sweater Vests Are Still In, Right?

At least one like this?  Yes.

Sweater Vest- Brand/Name/Tag- none (love having items with no brand or tag), but it really speaks for itself- price- not remembered, but no more than 5.99, and most likely less.  I rarely pay full price, even at Goodwill.

Its a talent.

Awesome Gold Pendant Necklace- 2.99, years and years ago….

This necklace would most absolutely likely go in my would be Goodwill “Hall of Fame”, which would include items purchased that have stood the test of time, and are now wonderful staples in my wonderful wardrobe.

AKA I’d be LOST without them.

I have a good feeling about the sweater the necklace is now adorning making it to the big leagues as well.  But time will tell.

I am having thoughts of doing a Hall Of Fame post, with all my favoritest staplest items I have collected over years past, but that will take much work and thought I’m sure, so we will see about it.  But the thought of sharing all my favoritest Goodwill staple items does excite me quite a bit, as they are all very exciting and wonderful!

Back to the sweater vest- it is warm and comfy and cozy and cute- as if all that wasn’t evident in my bathroom photo shoot pictures.  And perfect for the sudden winter, and first snow fall this morning, that has befallen Nashville.

I love it over this long sleeve neutral brown V-neck tee…and under that necklace!

On the unviewed bottom, I have dark wash skinny jeans and almost knee high dark brown boots.  Lots of neutrality, but the different shades of neutrality provide enough excitement so as to keep it from the realms of being boring.

A great find, from a great store with a great cause!

Happy Jaime.

Not so happy that I am studying and doing homework in it, but I’ll survive.

Happy thrifting and living,

Jaime ❤

**BORDEAUX by Anthropologie!** Wearing it right.

IMG_9964

IMG_9958IMG_9957IMG_9956

BORDEAUX at Anthropologie striped oversized shirt, Goodwill, $4.49.  Retail….heavens more than that. 1/5 my paycheck.  We’ll just stop there.

(Being represented on my left shoulder is also the great leather satchel purse I got on very recent trip as well for $7.99, and was also in my last post)

So I have really good taste in clothes.  Even when I’m not trying.  I’m sorry I just do!

Haha.  Kidding aside, I am constantly sometimes impressed when I pick up a shirt that is seemingly a no namer (a brand I, Jaime Nelson, do not recognize) to me, but I still notice something special about it, and it ends up being a great label like Anthropologie.  And this happened not once, but TWICE, on my trip last week.  I also sometimes try and play a fun game and of trying to guess the label before I look at it.  This can be harder than just recognizing whether its a quality brand or not.  In this post I am sharing one of those picks with you:)

At first, this shirt seemed to me just like a simple over sized, heavy weight, striped shirt, with cheap frills and lace at the bottom.  But on closer inspection, I was like, you know what, this is actually kind of cool.  And then I turned it over!

Small lace train to help cover and simultaneously prettify my booty?!  Sold!

I was right.  I looked up BORDEAUX, the lettering on the tag, and wouldn’t you know its a brand that is sold at the glorious incomparable bank account draining Anthropologie.  (Sorry, Anthro, y’all are a LEETLE pricey)

I wore this shirt the next night, and also to work the following Friday.  Possible to bed in between that.  I like it.

Reviews have been mixed.

When I told my boyfriend, “I got this shirt at Goodwill the other night!” he said “Yeah, it looks like something you would wear.  Interesting.’

Hmm.

Not exactly a compliment, more just stating a fact…as I WAS in fact wearing it at the time of said comment, but since I’m so in love with myself, I take it like one 🙂

It’s a great shirt, and my fashionable self WOULD wear it, he is correct.

At work on Friday I also got no, “That is a great shirt!” “Where did you get that top?” “HOW are you so cool and stylish and lovely all around?”

Ok, the last one maybe is a stretch, but the first two while possible, did not occur either.  Still doesn’t mean it isn’t great.

Half the key to fashion is choosing and being confident in what you love because it shows, and people admire that confidence when they see it.

One of the best fashion accessories is confidence.  And jewelry.  Of any kind.

I also documented, for my thousands hundreds of followers on Instagram (@findbeautyinallthings) how I felt while I was wearing it.  And now I will share that with you.

Turn your eyes to the left half.

Yes.  Death.

The right is what I really wanted to represent, so I posted both.  Compromise.

I may have had a laterthannecessarymoremanhattansthannecessary night the evening before.  And my 30 year old self felt it the next day.  But it was worth it.  My roommate had just gotten back the night before after being away for 3 weeks after breaking her leg, and I she needed a night out.

We went to Eastland Café, a GREAT restaurant near me that has one of the best rated happy hours in town, and the sister restaurant of where she works.  This was followed by going to her restaurant to see on of the hostesses perform some music that night.

Nashville!  She was good.

Coulda stopped at the happy hour…but didn’t, and then proceeded to take a well deserved nap during my break the next day.

And that is the story of that shirt thus far…I’m sure it has many more adventures ahead.

Don’t you love finding awesome expensive brands for less and then wearing them no matter what people may think??

I do.

Happy thrifting and living,

Jaime ❤

Leather Satchel, $7.99- Sunday Trip

Sun4 sun5

This purse really speaks for itself.  I almost didn’t get it because of a dark little scuff on the front, but caught a glimpse of it while waiting in line to purchase a frame, and its strength and beauty took me away once more, so I snatched it up for good.

It is clearly real leather, great detailing and just quality work, you can tell.  For $7.99 I feel its a great price. It will also fit in well with the laid back, muted style of Nashville.  Understated, but still expensive looking.  Its about quality and functionality.

The leather also seems an appropriate choice for the coming colder winter month, although I hate to think about them.  Fall forever, please?  Thanks.

I got this trip on my first trip with my new boyfriend, I told him it was a step in our relationship, coming to Goodwill with me.  I don’t go with just anyone:)  Well, that’s not true, I would go with any and everyone who wanted to go to Goodwill, but its still a special time for me no matter what.  I saw something that caught my eye as soon as we walked in (a scarf…but they priced it at 8.99- are you kidding?? Is it Armani??  Not everything Goodwill does pleases or makes sense to me), so I said, bye, see you in a few, smiled and walked to the woman’s department.

He came back in a short bit, not long enough, but I’ll oblige, with a ‘new’ science fiction book for 1.99.  He is trying to get back into reading after the excitement I had over my last book, Henry and Clara, and our subsequent trip to Mary Lincoln’s house in Lexington, KY.  He’s a science fiction more than historical fiction type, I’ll allow it.

Altogether a successful tip, bonding and shopping combinado.

I’ll include a few other pictures of what we did that day…  I had a Sunday off of work for once and so we were able to spend pretty much the entire day together, doing mostly a bunch of nothing…and it was nice.

We started with a trip to the quite local <two walking blocks away> coffee shop so I could do a homework assignment, and was immediately greeted by a string quartet when I walked in: (have I mentioned I love heart adore Nashville?)

sunday

I was worried it may be too distracting, but it turned out just fine.

I was also pleasantly surprised to see they have QUITE the brunch menu items on Sunday from 10-2 (I was in luck- it was right around 12:00)

Sunday 2

We got the eggs benedict casserole, smoked gouda grits, and the vegetarian biscuits with mushroom gravy ( I am a sucker for mushrooms).  It was all delicious.

Sun3

<Grant’s hand making an appearance in the upper left corner>

as you can see.  I love Nashville and my neighborhood.  Which is why I pay what I do to live in a basement apartment with minimal windows, but maximal area enjoyment 🙂

Sunday funday indeed.

Thanks for stopping by, happy thrifting and living!

❤ Jaime

I realize it’s been a bit…

…since I last posted.  The thing is, it’s a catch 22, the longer I go without posting, the harder it is to post because I have so much  more to choose from to post about!

Post, post, post.

That and my computer is acting up.

The first reason sounds so much cooler.

But either way, whenever I go an amount of time without posting, it DOES NOT mean I am not Goodwill shopping. Rest assured.  I’m not sure that will ever be the state of my life.  I find way too much good stuff there.  (get that pun…?:)  I know y’all missed my cleverness.

I do have this great little photo shoot my friend Rion was nice enough to help out with about a month ago…:/, so I will share that for now.

location- The Stone Fox, restaurant/bar/music venue/awesomeness- Nashville, TN

Skirt: Goodwill, .99

Belt: T.J. Maxx, 12.99

Tee: T.J. Maxx, 5.99

Purse: Yard Sale, $5

Bracelet: Salvation Army, Tampa, $4

As you can see, I find bargains everywhere.  People’s yards… t.j. maxx… other thrift stores.  Always on the lookout, and ALWAYS benefiting.

I love it.

When buying the bracelet, I wasn’t positive it was ‘me’ because it is a little larger and overstated and flashy than I thought I liked.

I wore it out of the store, and I don’t think I took it off for three days:)  It has definitely come in handy since as well.

Thank you Salvation Army, Tampa Bay.  Thank you.  $4 well spent.

This was my first time wearing the skirt out, and I simply wore it running errands to prepare for my road trip from Nashville to Charleston for one of my good girlfriend’s weddings.  Happy day.  Happy weekend.

Lastly, I must mention the belt.  One of my favorite purchases from Marshall’s about two years ago, ever.  $12.99 also very well spent.  It is more versatile than I ever could have predicted, and definitely works with this outfit, in addition to many others.

I haven’t actualy been inside this Stone Fox yet, but I have friends that have, and can’t wait to go see a show or grab a drink there myself.  I now live half a mile away from this, on the same street, so I can’t imagine it will be very long before it happens.  yay.

Well, I am glad to be back, I will do my absolutely, positively best to not go so long again next time.

BUT, in the name of more excuses, I was on one vacation…and I moved sine we last spoke.

K, that’s all.

Happy thrifting and living,

keep it real,

Lotsa stuff this week and last…Coca-Cola Lady, Anthropologie, J. Crew, Home Decor and more and a Giveaway!!

Where to start.  Me and Goodwill have been busy the last week and a half.  I guess I will just start with the homegoods, and then move on to the good stuff.  The clothing.

Her:

IMG_4833

Vintage coca-cola tray, 1.99

Who doesn’t want this lady sitting on their coffee table, drink in hand, ready to hang out.

IMG_4834

dresser for a troll.  Or jewelry, $4.99

No, I don’t have a troll moving in.  It will be interesting to see what a mini dresser will look like sitting on an exact same version of a larger dresser.  ‘Twill be nteresting.

IMG_4801

brooms for witches.  Or to sit in my hallway or hang in my kitchen and be decorative, 1.99 for a set of 3.

Apparently I have a fairy tale theme going on so far.  Trolls and witches galore.

IMG_4836

Ceramic flower vase, 4.99

This is just pretty.  that’s all I have to say about that.

IMG_4814 IMG_4813

Light brown pillar candle holder, 4.99

IMG_4827 IMG_4824

toy chest/future DIY project/Window seat, 5.99

A little paint, maybe some stencils, and some pillows thrown on top, and this will be sitting in front of my front window.  Hopefully to be my dog’s new resting place, instead of the couch that me and my friends hang out on.

Last, but certainly not least,

IMG_4822 IMG_4821

large brown box, 19.99

Kidding!

Manhattan desk, new in box from target.com, 19.99

List price online, 129.99

I like 19.99.

Sometimes Goodwill scares me.  It’s like someone (God…?) puts exactly what I am looking for and what I need there when I come in.  It’s weird.

I was looking for a desk today, and knew I probably couldn’t fit an already put together one in my Civic, but I went in hoping anyway.  Is that what faith is?? 🙂  And lo and behold, here is one all boxed up and ready to be taken away in my Civic.

Scary.

I see productivity in my future.  Can’t wait.  Many good things will go down at this desk.

And now, on to the good stuff.

Cloooothing.

Chelsea & Violet shirt, sold at Anthropologie, half off for 2.25!

I love the drapey style of this shirt.  It’s a size small, so I bought it with the intent of maybe reselling it beacause it is a great brand.  But after getting home, I couldn’t help trying it on, and voila!  It fits.  It’s not going anywhere now.  Except out into the world on MY back.

Warm weather wear was not forgotten…Fall IS my favorite season…

J. Crew light weight off-white sweater, 3 buttons on each shoulder, 5.99

IMG_4811 IMG_4810

Annalee + Hope chunky burnt yellow sweater, 5.99

I’m not sure who annalee and hope are, but I think I would like them and want them to be my friend.  This sweater is great.

My favorite part of it, other than the burnt yellow amazingness (that is pretty much my favorite clothing color of the moment) and the fact that it apparently likes to say the plege of allegiance, is the shorter in front than the back style.  It makes what could be a shapeless unstyled chunky sweater somewhat stylish and fun.  And still warm.  Stylish and warm.  Golden!

IMG_4816

IMG_4818

IMG_4819

Brown Old Navy wrap sweater/cardigan, 5.99

I love the fitted ribbed sleeves and the way you can leave it open or wrap yourself up in it nice and warm and cozy.  ‘Twill come in handy.  ‘Twill is definitely one of my new favorite words.  Using it ALL the time.  ‘Twill.

Definitely paid full price (at Goodwill) for fabulous for all these sweaters, but at a full price of 5.99 it’s still pretty darn randy.

GIVEAWAY PART!!!!-

Lastly, I had some luck last Wednesday on .99 day in my area.  Meaning the half-off color of the week is sold for just .99!  Some pretty good stuff falls through the cracks and makes it to these racks somehow.

For example….

the items below:

IMG_4767 IMG_4768IMG_4766 IMG_4765  IMG_4763 IMG_4762 IMG_4761IMG_4764

Old Navy striped top, ruffle tuxedo detailing

– Xhilaration polka dot top puffed sleeve tee

– Forever XXI plaid babydoll tank shirt/dress

-Xhilaration spaghetti strap flower dress, cupped bra top

As I said, pretty good week for Goodwill and me.

One of these items is an XS.

The polka dot Xhilaration top to be particular.  I am not an XS.  Small at best.

But it was .99 for a whole lot of cuteness and I couldn’t say no.

SO,

I will be doing a giveaway.

If you would like this shirt and will fit in it, or just want to have it to stare at, whatever floats your boat, simply comment by next Friday,October 4!  l will count the number of comments and pick that number out of a hat, and that number commenter is the lucky winner of this great t-shirt!

Happy thrifting and living!  Have you been having as much luck lately as I have???  I hope so!

Everyone Needs a Peasant Top…right?

IMG_4455

IMG_4430

IMG_4423 IMG_4418 IMG_4410

$4.29, no tag, aka I don’t know the brand.

Just like this.

Or at least me. Maybe y’all would like yours to look a little different.

But I recommend not too different as this top is really working out for me.

I honestly can’t remember the first place I wore this amazing piece of clothing, but I do remember that the SECOND was the preschool that I work at.  And I know that while I was wearing it the first time, I do remember thinking,

“I’m gonna wear this to work.”

And I did.

I did.

Lo and behold, while working, I got into a conversation about clothing (shocking, I know) with a college student who was there doing research on our children (completely appropriate and approved by director and parents alike, don’t worry).  Long story short, she complimented my shirt.  That being the above peasant top for people who have trouble following.  And she had very good taste, you’ll just have to trust me on this.

Well I obviously would think she had good taste because she was wearing a very slightly different (just in the neckline) version of a dress that I own myself.  She purchased her dress at Nordstrom’s, I got mine at Goodwill, but it is a Target brand originally.  This makes me slightly confused, first, and then I come to the realization that they all must share patterns and fabrics apparently, from Target to Nordstrom’s and I wonder how this works.  If anyone out there happens to know.

Goodwill strikes again y’all, I hope you are continuing to have thrift luck as I do!

Happy thrifting and thanks for stopping by! Follow me if you’d like! Or you can follow me on instagram, @mygoodwillfinds or @jaimen84. Either/or. Both will show you amazing things and wonderment 😉

Do you like peasant shirts like me, or do you think they are outdated?  Please tell.

I did! Until I kept finding myself trying them on…and so I finally just gave in and bought the perfect one! As a matter of opinion of course…

Dress: Old Navy, for .99 at Goodwill

Sandals: Kelly & Kate, for 2.99 Goodwill

Bracelet: gifted from Cape Cod from a lovely friend.

In case you can’t tell, I love this dress AND Germantown, where I took it out for the first time.

On Wednesday and Sunday in my area, all Goodwills sell their color of the week for just .99, instead of half off as they do for the rest of the week.  So I make sure to hit up Goodwill on a Wednesday or Sunday as often as I can.  I can not believe this dress, along with some other great tops, made it to the .99 rack, but I was happy it did.

The Sandals I got last October in CT while I lived there for a brief stint.  Although it was October when I got them, I knew they were timeless enough that for $2.99 I would still be able to wear them come Summer.

I got to go to brunch last Saturday with my good girlfriend Rion at this new crepes restaurant in town called The Red Bicycle.  It is located in a lovely and quaint area of town called Germantown.  I love Germantown.  This street in particular has some of my favorite Nashville restaurants on it, including City House, and SILO which is a farm to table restaurant.  And The Red Bicycle did not disappoint.  It can keep its location on 5th Ave. North in Nashville, TN.

It was adorable, quirky and fun…three of my favorite attributes in a restaurant.

Oh and the food was good too:)

We each got two specialty crepes and shared them ALL!  I like how after we each ordered our first one the cashier thought we were done..no no.  These look too delicious to stop at one.  Thanks,  And were very full after, but not too full to walk around in 100+ degree heat for a LITTLE bit and stage a mini photo shoot.  (Results above;)

Some shots of the restaurant:

IMG_4332

Ordering counter.  They have wonderful coffee drinks as well.

IMG_4334 IMG_4333

colorful chairs and tables galore.

IMG_4335

Our first two crepes have arrived.  Nutella, and the Highlander, which was my FAVORITE!!! Chicken, gorgonzola, apples and tarragon aoili.

IMG_4337

We fit a little talking in there too.

They also had a local photographer’s artwork on the walls, which I feel is always a very nice touch.  Each piece was from a different city around the country, so I felt like I got a little traveling in while eating my crepes.

It was a lovely Saturday and I’m glad I got to share it with y’all:)  Look forward to some more finds coming your way soon… I may just be wearing one as I write this blog…

Happy Thrifting.

-Jaime
