Lotsa stuff this week and last…Coca-Cola Lady, Anthropologie, J. Crew, Home Decor and more and a Giveaway!!

Where to start.  Me and Goodwill have been busy the last week and a half.  I guess I will just start with the homegoods, and then move on to the good stuff.  The clothing.

Her:

Vintage coca-cola tray, 1.99

Who doesn’t want this lady sitting on their coffee table, drink in hand, ready to hang out.

IMG_4834

dresser for a troll.  Or jewelry, $4.99

No, I don’t have a troll moving in.  It will be interesting to see what a mini dresser will look like sitting on an exact same version of a larger dresser.  ‘Twill be nteresting.

IMG_4801

brooms for witches.  Or to sit in my hallway or hang in my kitchen and be decorative, 1.99 for a set of 3.

Apparently I have a fairy tale theme going on so far.  Trolls and witches galore.

IMG_4836

Ceramic flower vase, 4.99

This is just pretty.  that’s all I have to say about that.

IMG_4814 IMG_4813

Light brown pillar candle holder, 4.99

IMG_4827 IMG_4824

toy chest/future DIY project/Window seat, 5.99

A little paint, maybe some stencils, and some pillows thrown on top, and this will be sitting in front of my front window.  Hopefully to be my dog’s new resting place, instead of the couch that me and my friends hang out on.

Last, but certainly not least,

IMG_4822 IMG_4821

large brown box, 19.99

Kidding!

Manhattan desk, new in box from target.com, 19.99

List price online, 129.99

I like 19.99.

Sometimes Goodwill scares me.  It’s like someone (God…?) puts exactly what I am looking for and what I need there when I come in.  It’s weird.

I was looking for a desk today, and knew I probably couldn’t fit an already put together one in my Civic, but I went in hoping anyway.  Is that what faith is?? 🙂  And lo and behold, here is one all boxed up and ready to be taken away in my Civic.

Scary.

I see productivity in my future.  Can’t wait.  Many good things will go down at this desk.

And now, on to the good stuff.

Cloooothing.

Chelsea & Violet shirt, sold at Anthropologie, half off for 2.25!

I love the drapey style of this shirt.  It’s a size small, so I bought it with the intent of maybe reselling it beacause it is a great brand.  But after getting home, I couldn’t help trying it on, and voila!  It fits.  It’s not going anywhere now.  Except out into the world on MY back.

Warm weather wear was not forgotten…Fall IS my favorite season…

J. Crew light weight off-white sweater, 3 buttons on each shoulder, 5.99

IMG_4811 IMG_4810

Annalee + Hope chunky burnt yellow sweater, 5.99

I’m not sure who annalee and hope are, but I think I would like them and want them to be my friend.  This sweater is great.

My favorite part of it, other than the burnt yellow amazingness (that is pretty much my favorite clothing color of the moment) and the fact that it apparently likes to say the plege of allegiance, is the shorter in front than the back style.  It makes what could be a shapeless unstyled chunky sweater somewhat stylish and fun.  And still warm.  Stylish and warm.  Golden!

IMG_4816

IMG_4819

Brown Old Navy wrap sweater/cardigan, 5.99

I love the fitted ribbed sleeves and the way you can leave it open or wrap yourself up in it nice and warm and cozy.  ‘Twill come in handy.  ‘Twill is definitely one of my new favorite words.  Using it ALL the time.  ‘Twill.

Definitely paid full price (at Goodwill) for fabulous for all these sweaters, but at a full price of 5.99 it’s still pretty darn randy.

GIVEAWAY PART!!!!-

Lastly, I had some luck last Wednesday on .99 day in my area.  Meaning the half-off color of the week is sold for just .99!  Some pretty good stuff falls through the cracks and makes it to these racks somehow.

For example….

the items below:

IMG_4767 IMG_4768IMG_4766 IMG_4765  IMG_4763 IMG_4762 IMG_4761IMG_4764

Old Navy striped top, ruffle tuxedo detailing

– Xhilaration polka dot top puffed sleeve tee

– Forever XXI plaid babydoll tank shirt/dress

-Xhilaration spaghetti strap flower dress, cupped bra top

As I said, pretty good week for Goodwill and me.

One of these items is an XS.

The polka dot Xhilaration top to be particular.  I am not an XS.  Small at best.

But it was .99 for a whole lot of cuteness and I couldn’t say no.

SO,

I will be doing a giveaway.

If you would like this shirt and will fit in it, or just want to have it to stare at, whatever floats your boat, simply comment by next Friday,October 4!  l will count the number of comments and pick that number out of a hat, and that number commenter is the lucky winner of this great t-shirt!

Happy thrifting and living!  Have you been having as much luck lately as I have???  I hope so!

For $55 small ones I got…

At the retail store:

IMG_3351

A handmade bureau/tv armoire, $15.99.

This looks handmade and kind of rough.  It needs a paint job for sure.  Which I am happy to do.  Eventually.  I have always loved refinishing dressers and furniture, so this will be a fun project for me, and a very cheap armoire for my clothes.

Which I have in abundance because of a beyond addiction to all things Goodwill.

IMG_3405

Xhilaration lacy, flowery, flowy tank top, full price at $4.49.

IMG_3400 IMG_3403

IMG_3404 IMG_3402

Life In Progress burnt orange corduroy pleated trouser shorts, $4.49.

IMG_3396

IMG_3390

IMG_3393

Somewhat oversized H&M off-white fake leather purse, $5.99.  Perfect condition.

IMG_3357

IMG_3356

Xhilaration branch cropped short sleeve loose fitting t-shirt, $4.49

And at the outlet:

IMG_3409

A-line double layered cotton embellished skirt by apostrophe, gift for Mom, ~0.60 at the Goodwill outlet.  Purchased by weight at $1.69/lb.

IMG_3422 IMG_3423

Great Pajama capris by Secret from the mart of Wals…about 0.60 by weight

IMG_3460

This beautiful quilt.  by Target, $3.99 by weight.

Technically, it was over the 5 lb mark, so when something gets that heavy, they will just give you a reasonable price.

Reasonable?  I think, yes.

This quilt is not perfect, its got a few small spots and a few small tears, but nothing I wouldn’t do sooner or later myself, and nothing a guest staying over would reject a night’s sleep for:)  Oh the wonderful host am I.  Goodwill makes it easy to have extra stuff on hand for the unexpected guest.  However, I quickly decided this would not be a guest blanket, but my personal bed covering for at least a little bit:)

I also got, but do not have pictured,

a lovely new square scarf for $1.99

a pair of khaki capris for a friend for 0.60

a pair of white wide leg pants and a matching blue and white tee for $1 each for a friend,

and a heather blue pocket cardigan from Old Navy for another friend.

Didja get all that?

And it only set me back $55.

Goodwill never ceases to amaze me.

I have used a few of these items already, and here they are in action:

The branch patterned loose tee from Target was the perfect wear for my sips n’ strokes class with a few girlfriends the very next night.  I do know how to put my clothes to use RIGHT away, that’s for sure.

IMG_3364

She’s sipping.  I’m stroking.  We are so getting this.

IMG_3398

Whatcha think?  It’s called Walk in the Rain, Part II.

Or maybe I’ll rename mine walk in the asteroids, I don’t know…

I’ll be honest, I did strip to just my lovely under tank top for the whole painting part.I know me.  I spill.  At least I arrived and left in style with this on and my new purse on my shoulder.

As I said, I am already using my new purse.  It didn’t take me long to make the switchover.  You ladies know what that means.  It can be an emotional event.

And I wore the burgundy covered loveliness tank top for happy hour drinking on Saturday, and afterwards to walk my dog.

staycation and Goodwill to the rescue

I had a little staycation/vacation or what have you this past weekend, it was so nice.

I have to agree with the joy of baking that there is something so nice about just being away.  even if it isn’t that far.  even if it is just 25 minutes.

Ben was house and dog sitting for his friend only 25 minutes outside of Nashville in a suburb called hermitage, and I went and stayed there saturday night after work through to Sunday.

either of us could have very easily gone home early in the day Sunday as his friends would be home that night, and the dog would be fine.  but we decided to stay.  my dog was there.  they could have some quality dog play time.  and we could have some quality ben jaime time.

we started our staycation (that word just really never gets old) by shopping at the local grocery store (something you totally do on vacation) for stuff for our pancake breakfast extravaganza.  strawberries, blueberries, snickers, peaches, bananas….i know, we’re pretty impressive eaters.

IMG_3185

IMG_3188

peaches n’ cream with blueberries and strawberries baked in.

(don’t worry….you can follow me on instagram @jaimen84! do it!)

our inspiration for this pancake breakfast was this restaurant we love called the Pfunky Griddle in the Berry Hill area of Nashville.  there is a griddle in the middle. of the table.  kind of like a do it yourself breakfast hibachi, and you get to pick your own toppings and make your own pancakes!  They entrust you with a big spatula of your own and everything!

they shouldn’t entrust Ben.  he flops it everytime.  luckily he has me to come to the rescue.  he and i have found i am a great flopper.

I have pictures!

my spatula, his spatula.  our griddle.  now we don’t have to fight.

Ben finding out this is a ‘make your own food’ restaurant.  give him a second to let it sink in.  apparently when i said its a ‘make your own pancake’ place, he thought i meant ‘its a restaurant just like any other, don’t be excited about this.’

me, fresh out of bed and ready to play.  oh look at that, that little number i have on is one of my favorite floor length maxi dresses from goodwill.  those stripes all the way down.  go ahead and picture it.  $7.99 last year on charlotte pike.

and that, my friends, is the Pfunky Griddle.

i know.

after we finished our version of Pfunky Griddle, i happily remembered that I have my friend’s key for her hotel room and outdoor poooooool (vacation!!!) about ten minutes away.  perfect next move as it was sunny and beautiful out.

problem- I had no bathing suit with me on this unplanned staycation 😦

Luckily, this is the same house I mentioned in my last post that happens to be just 5 glorious minutes away from a huge area Goodwill.

problem solved.

any excuse, right?  Ben knows.

So I said I’d be right back and hopped in the car to go find a bathing suit for CHEAP!

I knew on Sundays they had the prior color of the week on sale for just .99, as well as the new color of the week at half off.  Between the two colors I should be able to get out wtih a crazy cheap suit in hand.  On Sunday that was green and orange, so I kept my eyes glued for those hues and those hues only, and steered clear of any impostors. I wasn’t out to make a fashion statement, just not to spend a lot of money and to not be wearing a bra and underwear at a hotel pool.

Who am I kidding? I’m always out to make a fashion statement:).

I think I did alright.

This is what I found for my day of fun in the sun:

IMG_3205 IMG_3204 IMG_3203

Tommy Hilfiger bikini top, $2.13 at half off.

Target bikini bottom, rouched sides, .99.

$3.14 total for my emergency swim wear for the day.  Who’s a Goodwill pro?  I’m a Goodwill pro.

I almost got this very first suit I picked up, for .99:

 IMG_3189IMG_3190

cute wrap enclosure on the side.

to make the quickest goodwill trip on record, but I couldn’t have that.

i couldn’t get the very first suit.  i needed to be gone and make ben wait for at least a little bit longer, and it’s hard to go back to a one piece after all those years of tummy freedom in a bikini.  i felt so emprisioned.  i do love that pattern though… :/

This is me putting it to use with a Cayman Jack margarita drink of choice in hand.

IMG_3197

the bottom half of my raft is covered in cup holders.  pretty cool.  i would love to see the day I put all twelve of them to use at once- one, maybe two is all I can really see needing, but i won’t rule it out.

IMG_3192

i’ll agree with that.

IMG_3191

token drink leg pool picture.  gotta love em.

hand crafted and delicious.  i know, i need a pedicure.  it’s on the list.  but with so much pool sitting to do…i don’t really see how it’s gonna get done.

When buying this drink on the way to the pool at the gas station, I had it in mind to get a Bud Light Strawberrita.  but when I saw this can sporting a “no artificial ingredients, pure agave syrup, fresh lime juice and cane sugar” label on it, i had to change my story.  it may have as well have had an arrow pointing to it with a neon sign saying,

“Jaime, anything you could ever want in a drink for sitting by the pool is right here———->”

Cayman Jack knows the way to my heart.

Then I looked at the Bud Light version and saw in the same spot on the can, “contains artificial ingredients.”  bud light, you really know how to say the wrong thing sometimes.

I’m pretty sure we both passed out in the sun for at least a little bit by the pool that day.  Me while in the pool and on my raft island, him in his chaise lounge on the deck.  Success.  Staycation.

Until next time!  Happy thrifting and living!

love you all,

jaime

Have you all had any succcesful staycations this year?  Aren’t they sometimes so much more relaxing than traveling far and wide?

Has Goodwill saved you in an emergency clothing or other situation and gotten you out for cheap?

Who Kidnapped Me?

Imagea

And replaced her with a lady who says “I”m not actually going to get any of this.”

When ‘any of this’ is $4.29 a piece.

In the words of Jack McFarland, “Ex-squeeeeeze me?!!”

(Love him)

I don’t know who did it, but I want him or her to return me to me, after they learn to buy a good deal when they find one.

Because I would have loved to have had this green top and purple skirt.

Alas, neither of these items went home with me, but here is there info:

Gap Purple Skirt, just my size 8, $4.29

Lauren Conrad Ruffle Olive Green T-shirt, $4.29

To be honest, I couldn’t think off of the top of my head what I would pair the purple skirt with, out of clothing I owned or didn’t own and would then search for on my next trip… This made it a tad easier to turn down as I didn’t have some magical outfit pictured in my head that would never happen without that purple piece of heaven in my life.

I would pair these two colors together… but not their styles.  Each piece of clothing, both the shirt and the skirt, would require the piece worn with it to be simpler and more form fitting.   The shirt is too loose to wear with the skirt and vice versa, or else if not, I”m pretty sure the pair of  ’em would’ve ended up in my closet.

I was excited on this trip (I mean I”m always excited on a Goodwill trip, but anyway….) because I got to go to a Goodwill 20 minutes outside of Nashville that I never get to/choose to go to.  But I got the chance last week because my boyfriend is house sitting for a friend 5 minutes down the road.  Cut to me arriving there early one Thursday morning ‘ready to shop’.  Or apparently ready to find great things and then say no.  Either/or.

Are you every now and then a responsible shopper, or always, or never???

Do you like the color block trend/fashion style?

“I’ll think I’ll take ’em”

All Goodwill.

Shirt- Half off for $2.13 by Forever 21, last Spring of 2012 at the Charlotte Pike Goodwill in Nashville.

Shorts- $4.29 by Mossimo from Target, last Summer or 2012 at the Charlotte Pike Goodwill in Nashville.

I had a little fun with the exposure and contrast settings on this post.  Clearly.

It’s like instagram on your computer.  Pretty cool.

I fleetingly thought of doing a wordless post, as these pictures are self explanatory, all Goodwill.  And then I stopped.

No words is not in my vocabulary.  No pictures…maybe, but also, not really.

SO!

Here we go.

These shorts got me a little reprimand and friendly reminder of the dress code at the preschool.  CAN’T be shorter than arms length.  Ok. These may be a LITTLE shorter than that… :/.  Oops.

Heard and received and will not do it again.  Wouldn’t want to distract the 3 year olds with my bare legs.

I think we all know what I love so much about the shirt.  The excessive amount of flowers covering every bare inch.  I’m not a huge proponent of wearing black.  Ever.  But cover it in whimsical flowers and I’ll make an exception and allow it on my body.

I would have killed (and by kill I mean kill with kindness) to have some yellow skinny jeans to pair with this top.  I don’t love adding distressing in addition to color on the bottom with such a busy shirt on top.  But beggars Goodwillers can’t always be choosers.  But most of the time, we can.

The shorts do just fine.  More than fine.

I also decided to not really add any jewelry to this outfit at the time either, probably could have done simple earrings, but I decided to just go without this time.  Let the shirt speak if you will.  Let it “Spirk” 🙂

Til next time!

Fashion Frugality How To

IMG_3077

IMG_3076 IMG_3073 IMG_3106

This whole outift, head to toe, is under $50.

Believe it?

You should.

Shirt: Burlington Coat Factory, on clearance for $6.98 last Friday

Jeans: Goodwill (NY&Co.) $7.99

Necklace: Burlington Coat Factory, $9.99

Earrings: Family Dollar, $1

Shoes: Payless Shoe Source, Half off in a BOGO sale, 17.50

As you all know, I am a Goodwill aficionado, and find absolutely great deals there.  However, it is by far from the only place I find good deals.  I impress myself all the time with my fashion frugality.

So I would like to start impressing you and share with you great finds in addition to the ones I discover at Goodwill.  Hopefully you will be inspired and will believe that you DO NOT need to pay full price or break the bank (how does one break a bank anyway?) to look FABULOUS.

You can read about when I bought the jeans here.

I still love them.  In case you are of the lazy type and don’t want to click on that link and go to a WHOLE ‘nother web page, I got them for $7.99 and they are NY&Co Jeggings, although they do still have a zipper and button and are very substantial jeans.  Basically, I don’t agree with the jegging label, but that is what it says on the tag.

One may argue (as I do sometimes with myself) that if you are getting a good deal, it is because someone else doesn’t want it and it’s just an ugly piece of clothing that no one should own.

Not so.

I do pay, on the rare occasion, full price for items that I really truly feel in my heart are worth it.  Items that I won’t have nights of sleepless regret over.  And I get wonderful compliments on said items, and I accept said compliments graciously like a Lady.

HOWEVER.

I get many compliments on my bargains as well.  Just as many.

Case in point.

When trying on the lovely white shirt a lady actually walked up to me and told me it looked so good that I needed to buy one in every color.  Of course this just upset me because it was on clearance and I knew in my heart there were no other colors.

This did not stop me from looking.

I didn’t find anything.

But, my point is, I got a compliment not only while trying the shirt on, but once again last night while wearing it at an industry party at Bar 308 (awesome place if you ever get the chance to check it out).  Two compliments and it only cost me $6.98.  I am growing to refrain myself from responding to a compliment with the place and price I got it for and instead simply saying “Thank you.”

I was so excited to find a shirt of this style that fit well.  I have been wanting one since February when I first saw this style in a Target ad.  And now I own a wonderfully hobo sheik one that can be embellished with one of my many statement necklaces.

Lastly, as if the Universe knew I was going to write this post today,  this happened.  The lady sitting next to me at California Pizza Kitchen where I had lunch with my new friend, asked me where I got the earrings in this outfit from because she ABSOLUTELY LOVED them.

Family Dollar.

I was almost embarrassed to tell her.  Not because of myself but because she may be embarrassed that she liked jewelry from such a place.  Luckily, she seemed okay after the information was shared.  She didn’t immediately melt into a pile of shame on the floor of CPK.

Incidentally, I have since failed to see any more jewelry at Family Dollar.  Maybe it was a fluke that they were selling it there that day, but it just proves, you should always be on the lookout for a fashion deal.  You never know where they are going to pop up.

Happy shopping, and always, thrifting.

Jackpot…decisions need to be made

This past Saturday I finally had time to make a stop into my local Goodwill in East Nashville, and spent a good hour perusing and was happily happily rewarded.

IMG_2969

Look at that cart full of lovely patterns and color combinations galore.  Old Navy and Forever 21 and Target among them.

And I thought I had found a lot/done well at this point.

Little did I know.

Cut to a half hour later.

IMG_2971

And this is what my cart looked like.  Just a few more items 😉

Full of stripes and flowers and colors even more galore.

I think I set a personal record for most items of clothing tried on in one visit.  Possibly.  It’s hard to tell.  There are several other very close seconds I know.

IMG_2979

‘Yes’s’ to the left, ‘No’s’ to the right.

I said this in the dressing room to myself and the Bob Dylan song “clowns to the left of me, joker’s to the right…” popped into my head.    Now you can all sing “Stuck in the middle with you” for the rest of the day.  You’re welcome.

Luckily, most of the dressing room ‘no’s’ were easy decisions to make due to fit, etc.  I only had to turn a few down because of grownup things like cost and and just maybe not really completely needing another shirt.. dress.. shoe..what have you…. 😦

Now for some closeups…

This is one of the yes’s… turned a no…

the decision had to be made.

IMG_2973

One too many ruffles was the deciding factor.

Although I was very excited to find a lovely blue form fitting dress for $7.99 because I am trying to stear away from always wearing loose hippy type clothing, and MAYBE show off the figure I work so hard to keep for once…

But the ruffles were a bit excessive.  And I had to leave it behind.  To the right of the dressing room it went.

IMG_2981

Yes, yes, yes all over this outfit.

top by a.n.n.a. for $4.49.  Flowy.  Wow, what a surprise.  Who cares.  Love.

NY&Co. dark leggins jeans, with a zipper and button so they’re not completely jeggings I don’t think, my size, my style, $7.99.  To my house they go.

A girl needs to keep her skinny jeans in stock if she insists on keeping her tops as big and flowy as possible.  It’s all about balance.

IMG_2982

Keeping it casual in a loose fitting striped tee.

I can’t remember the brand, but it was also 4.49.  I wore it to the dog park that day.

I like it better with white shorts, but I’d have to be crazy to wear white shorts to a dog park.  Crazy.

IMG_2984

Flowery short sleeve peasant blouse by Converse for Target, $4.49.  With a tie in the back to cinch the waist.

I wore it to an outdoor movie night in East Nashville the following night.

The movie pick was Raising Arizona with Nicolas Cage and John Goodman amongh others.  I wasn’t excited about it but wanted to go anyway.

I. Loved. It.

So quirky and weird and awesome (exactly how I described it to my bf when he asked how it was).  Don’t know how I went so long without it in my life.

IMG_2987

Me and my girlfriend’s dog, Lady.  Sorry about the blur.  It happens.

IMG_2988

My friend Christina and I completely engrossed in the picture.  (No, my eyes are not closed- it was the flash 🙂

Such a fun night.  Perfect weather.  Food trucks, local beer (Jackalope), movie outside while lying on blankets with friends and dogs.  Bliss!

IMG_2983

Can’t forget the homegoods section.

Glass beaded candle, $1.99.

I’m moving in with my friend this weekend, and I think this will match her (our) decor very well.

IMG_2985

All my finds together.  $34 total.  Not horrible at all.

Not included in a close-up:

Striped gray tee v-neck by Vintage, $4.49.

Pink Pashmina scarf, $1.99.

And square baking pan, $1.99.  Gotta keep those baked goods on hand to help me fill out those skinny jeans!:)  Don’t think that just comes natural! Haha.

I made butterscotch brownies in them that very day…and then remade them the next day as I failed the first time.

If at first you don’t succeed, try, and try again!

And I did.

And I will.

That’s what life is about!

Thanks for stopping by, please come again, and leave a comment or two or three!

-Jaime
