Festival (Block Party) Wear

Well it was more of a block party than a festival, but if more than a couple bands are on the bill I’m gonna call it a festival and feel fine about it. And maybe because I don’t have any festivals on the books to go to this year, it makes me feel like I made it to one. So just let me have this one 🙂

Anyway, yesterday I went to a ‘block party’ put on by a couple organizations, the collaborations of which resulted in a local bill of 5 successful Nashville bands, local food trucks and art/craft vendors, taking place at an old car factory turned music venue downtown. All for only $10 with the radio station’s discount code (y’all know I used it). Great deal.

And I wore another, probably one of my most versatile, statement necklaces. I paired it with a very exciting purchase of a dress that I made last Fall at Target for $7.48.

I looooove Target clearance, sometimes.

Honestly the prices can be better than Goodwill if you happen to be there at the right time. (Sorry, Goodwill, I called ya out a little).

The first time I wore this dress, and the only other time, was to my friend’s bridal shower in Charleston, SC, last October and the lady I was staying with (through airbnb.com- a great way to travel cheaply if anyone is interested out there) couldn’t believe the price I paid and where I got it. She said it looked boutique and much more expensive.

Well, duh.

I don’t pay the prices, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like, and have…the look 😉 Can I get an amen???

And pairing the dress with this statement necklace from Burlington really adds, and completes the look.

I did quite a bit of people, I mean Fashion, watching at the block festival party and got quite jealous of some looks I saw. But hopefully there were one or two liking what they saw on me too, and returning the jealousy favor. I mean, us girls dress for other girls when it really comes down to it, right?

Anyway, the night and music was awesome. The band I was really excited to see, The Wild Feathers, definitely showed up and delivered, and dancing ensued.

2500 other people agreed, it was sold out, and I was so proud of Nashville for supporting this all local event. What with everyone, almost, being artists and musicians in this town, it can be quite hard to draw a crowd or impress, but the performers last night clearly did, and it was touching to see all the local love.

Shop, eat, live, love- local.

Well, love…ok, you can do that globally, as long as the local is included 😉

And keep thrifting buying second hand always…

Statement Necklace Week- Plato’s Closet Find

Coral/pink beaded and cloth string statement necklace- Plato’s Closet, $4.99

By statement necklace ‘week’, I clearly mean that I wore one on Tuesday (see best khaki blazer post), and one on Wednesday (FYI- I did just say wed-nes-day in my head), this qualifies as week.

Anyway, that is a great price for a statement necklace. I love finding these deals, because I LOVE statement necklaces, but do not love their statement prices. My favorite part of this necklace is the cloth string it is strung on. I love that style.

Great places I have found ststement necklaces at reasonable prices are Platos Closet (a second hand clothing consignment store) and Burlingon Coat Factory, a very large well known department store that I do not need to add an explanation for, but still did.

At Burlington, the necklaces generally come with matching earrings, which at first I tuned by nose up at.

What am I, 90? Or a Stepford housewife? Matching earring and necklace? No.

And then…each time I went to wear my statement necklace from Burlington, and choose earrings to ‘match’…well, funny, I guess those designers knew what they were doing, cause I chose the ‘matching’ earrings. Each time.

Eat my words.

I think it worked because the coordinated earrings were always decently small, to balance out with the necklace.

The specific earrings I am referring to I am actually wearing in this picture, (not with their matching necklace, to be clear). I quite like them. Simple but pretty. Just enough to say, “I took the time to hang something pretty from my ears today, just for you.”

That’s the kind of statement I like to make with my ears, when wearing a statement necklace, I guess.

Have I said statement enough?

Best Khaki Blazer!! Bookkeeper Wear Color Pop

I know, it’s as exciting as it sounds- bookkeeping. Except! Except I get to do it at a music venue in Nashville so I get to deal with and hear some pretty cool people and subjects while working away at numbers. It helps.

Now, I don’t want to lead you into believing I actually put a nice outfit on like this everyday…I’d actually been getting pretty sloppy since I don’t really see anyone but my two main coworkers when I go in. But I was having a little meeting with both my bosses so I thought I’d at least put some effort into my ensemble (and then document the Goodwill goodness for you of course).

It worked. One of my bosses even said, “You look nice, all bookeeper-y.” Yes, yes I do. To which the other guy said, “What are you talking about?” To which I gave the first guy a knowing nod. We get it. Blazer. Necklace. Music venue bookkeeper-y.

Not polka dot pants and old burnt orange t-shirt (outfit prior day) no makeup and no jewelry. Not so bookkeeper-y.

Hey, I watched my fair share of What Not to Wear (more than my fair share to be honest- I love me some Stacey and Clinton), and I know the difference an outfit can make. In your confidence, in how others perceive you, the list goes on. So when in doubt, dress it up, appropriately. Cleavage is generally never appropriate. That does not equal dressing it up, to be clear.

Underneath this great mossimo blazer, which I got at Goodwill for $5.99, is one of my other absolute favorite fashion deal finds,, my peplum top tank, that I got for around $5 last year at Burlington coat factory. The necklace was 4.99 at platos closet, and the jeans were $22.99 (splurge:) also at Burlington. Quilted tan flats are wal-mart. Gasp. Yes I do occasionally shop there

All in all, a GREAT outfit, for cheap, and for bookkeeping.

Hey, after all, does it surprise you I like to work with numbers and bottom lines? I am a fashionista on a budget.

Family Dollar Fashion

Black and Khaki Graphic Maxi-Skirt- $10, Family Dollar

Yes, those three words can go together. I was just as surprised myself when I found out.

Being the fashionable (addicted) shopper that I am, I never pass up an opportunity to just glance and see what’s available when I see racks of clothing or jewelry goods near by.

So that is what I did several years ago while at my local Family Dollarpucking up something very exciting like toilet paper and cleaning supplies.

And, oh, I also got a cute wrap t-shirt with an attached belt. I was so excited about my Family Dollar finds that day, and that I had a new place to support my addiction, I told everyone at work that night that Family Dollar, who knew, had some cute clothes.

So ever since, I try and stop through the clothing section and give it a decentlok over.

Now they’re regular prices are decently cheap- but they also have CLEARANCE!!

One of my favorite finds is a half sleeve length gray shirt with the loose fitting armpits and lace cutouts on each shoulder, for $3. Clearance. Family Dollar.

This skirt is my latest purchase there for $10 or $12 I can’t remember. I had bought a graphic maxi skirt similar to this in blue at targe for probably 22.99, and wasn’t comfortable with the price. And the next day I found this for $12. Much better, and still looks great.

They even have color variety and everything. Everything from children’s to plus size, and shoes!

But the most important thing, is this skirt looks like it cost me much more than the $10, and means I feel like a million bucks (or at least more than $10) while wearing it.

Look I Match the Outside

Lilac Mossimo Skinny Jeans for Spring (it says that on the label- FOR SPRING)- $7.49

Not surprising when the outside I am referring to is covered in pretty purple flowers, come on, we know me.

But how fun is it to match??

The flower picture is outside my friend’s old place, when I dropped him off after we hung out to…well, to move. Away from Nashville. Away from me.

As I told him when I found out he was moving- friends don’t leave friends.

Well apparently they do.

At least I had these great happy colored jeans, perfectly matching my flowery spring top, to skip away in after to make me feel better. We all know the power of a great outfit.

I got these GREAT spring toned lilac colored jeans last week on my quick aimless stop in (along with the purse from my last post) for their full Goodwill price (still a steal price) of $7.49.

Once again- just like my tecent teal pins and needles dress find (Spring clothes galore)- it was my perfect size 8. And it fit. Lets be honest, sometimes our size doesn’t fit. Even when it’s your absolute favorite thing, and that is a sad day. But this is a happy day, because they were a size 8, and they fit. I mean look at them, I’m not lying. They’re great.

P.S. can I tell you a secret?

Maybe it’s that I’m paranoid of embarrassing myself in front of all you fashionable smart people, or maybe it’s because I apparently failed the learn your colors outside of ROY G BIV spectrum in elementary school- but I had to ask someone if that teal dress I memtioned was in fact teal, and I actually just wikipedia’d (that is a verb) the color lilac to make sure these jeans were in fact lilac.

I’m not sure where this color insecurity has come from, but oh, it is there. And now you know.

It was a high of 70 something today, highest yet this year, and I think I had the perfect outfit to not only enjoy it in, but to match it,thanks, to Goodwil!:)
